Why stop my Debit Order

I received a call from Vodacom's collections department to inform me that I need to pay cash for my account. I have always paid by debit order. I was also given a long-winded explanation, despite my request to the call centre agent to give me the gist only. The call cut off and I received an SMS to contact Vodacom myself.

I had to make numerous calls afterward to find out what happened regarding the debit order.

Why was it cancelled? Why was I not informed of it?

Vodacom - this is really not acceptable.
