We are giving you a “free” phone

I received a call from a Vodacom agent last year saying that Vodacom wanted to give me a free Honor X6 phone, which I didn’t need or want. After asking multiple times what the catch was and if I would have to pay anything, they assured me there were no costs. I accepted the phone since a member of my family needed one, and gifted him this free phone. A few months later, I went into the Vodacom store to check my contract, and the agent there told me I was paying way too much for my data contract. He then looked into the breakdown, and saw I was paying like 60% for my data, and the rest was going towards the Honor X6 AND insurance for it!! For a phone that was meant to be free, and that I definitely never agreed to insure. The agent in store was great and tried to escalate my request multiple times, saying he had heard of similar complaints before. The call centre eventually called me and admitted that they had listened to the recording of my call and that the agent had blatantly **** to me about the phone being free, and that they were sorry. They then said that they would reverse the amounts paid and cancel the contact only if I returned the phone?! Which I had given to a family member and had no control over the condition of the phone. I said I would speak to the family member and that they should call me back the following day, which they never did. I have gone back in store multiple times to escalate the request and have never been contacted again, despite receiving messages to “rate their service” - service that I never received! I am an extremely disappointed customer who continues to pay for a phone that I didn’t want / need / agree to, and Vodacom doesn’t seem to want to do anything about it.
