WARNING TO ANYONE CONSIDERING A VODACOM CONTRACT

Avoid taking a contract with unless you’re prepared for frustration.

I signed a 2-year phone contract on 28 February 2024. It should have ended by now (3 months ago) but instead, every time the end date approaches, I’m suddenly told I’m “in arrears.” New amounts keep appearing with no clear explanation and the contract just keeps getting extended.

It feels like a system designed to trap you into paying indefinitely.

Be careful. Know exactly what you’re signing up for and watch your billing closely.

Reviewer Update
I have already served the required 30-day notice and, given my experience over the past few months, I took the precaution of recording my interactions and keeping detailed records should I ever need to pursue further recourse.
Frankly, my experience with this Vodacom contract has been nothing short of dreadful. The contract was supposed to have lapsed in February, yet every month there appeared to be a new explanation as to why it had allegedly not ended. To make matters worse, my number was blocked to enforce Vodacom's position, leaving me with little choice but to continue making payments under protest.
For the past four months, Vodacom has consistently sent me statements reflecting an outstanding balance of approximately R1,270.00. However, whenever I queried why I was still receiving contract benefits if the contract had supposedly ended, I would then be told that the contract had not ended at all, and that the actual outstanding balance was R2,606.66, of which I had only paid R1,270.00. This cycle repeated itself month after month, creating confusion, frustration, and unnecessary stress.
As a result, despite once again being told today that I only owed R1,270.00, I elected to pay the full R2,606.66. I am no longer prepared to be caught in the same revolving cycle that I have experienced for the last four months.
Let me be absolutely clear: I have served my notice, I have settled the amount claimed, and I have paid more than what Vodacom's latest statement reflected. As far as I am concerned, this contract is terminated. If it transpires that I have overpaid, I expect to be reimbursed accordingly.
By the end of June 2026, this matter should be closed. Should Vodacom continue with the same conduct that I have experienced over the past four months, I will have no alternative but to pursue formal legal recourse.

I have honoured my obligations in full. Now I expect Vodacom to honour theirs.
