WARNING: Systematic Misleading Sales & Unauthorized Contracts at Vodacom

I am writing this to warn the public about the deceptive sales tactics currently being employed by Vodacom. I have reached a point where I have zero respect or hope for any transaction handled over a Vodacom telephone line.

The First Deception: Two years ago, I accepted a sales call to upgrade my existing mobile package. I was explicitly told my current number was being moved to a better plan. There was absolutely no mention of a second number or an additional contract. Because of this, I had no reason to look for a second SIM card. It turns out a loose SIM was thrown into the courier packaging—which I only discovered two years later when I went to retrieve the original iPhone box. I have been paying for an unauthorized, unrequested second contract for two years without my consent.

The Second Deception (The "Test"): I recently tested their integrity again while trying to cancel my services. One agent actually called me "stupid and ********" for wanting to leave. I then spoke to a cancellation agent named Mickayla. I explained I wanted to port my number to Capitec soon and needed a month-to-month, non-contract "SIM-only" deal. I confirmed with her at least six times: "Can I cancel whenever I want? Is this definitely not a contract?" She assured me it was not.

The Truth: I called back the very next day to verify. She had signed me into yet another two-year contract. Luckily, I caught this within the cooling-off period and cancelled it immediately, but it proves that they lie over the phone with no shame at all.

I was laughing just to keep from crying. It is unbelievable that a company of this size operates this way. I will be taking this matter further with ICASA.

To the public: Be extremely careful. Do not make any deals over the phone!!!

No, this has not been resolved. I managed to stop this recent upgrade just in time, before I was bound to another two-year term without my consent. My primary concern remains the second contract sold to me in 2024; I am still being billed for this second line, despite never being made aware of its existence or consenting to it. I have taken this to the consumers act and will take it further from there.
