Voice mail gets cancelled every 28 days

According to the call centre operator, the reason I don't have voice mail AGAIN is that if no-one leaves a message on my phone for 28 days, the entire voice mail forwarding is cancelled and I have to start it from scratch again. Is this correct?

So if I answer my phone whenever someone calls me for 28 days in a row, then on Day 29 someone calls and I don't get to the phone in time, tough ****, there is no longer a voice mailbox for them to leave a message on?

Who decided this arbitrary number of days? How is it that I've had this same number and same contract since 2000 and didn't know this? Why has the voice mail worked effortlessly through upgrade after upgrade then suddenly 15 years down the line the voicemail facility keeps getting cancelled every couple of months?

(a) This feature sucks.
(b) If you are going to persist in cancelling services, the least you should do is send me an sms on Day 27 saying \we notice no one has left you a message in 27 days. Please call your own phone and leave a message if you want to retain this service".
(c) Oh"
