Today I received a call from Trevor van Zyl on behalf of Vodacom, or so he said. He told me I won a cash prize of R20 000, a Samsung phone and a grocery voucher of a shop of my choice. Then he asked me to top-up my airtime with R220 to ensure my talking points is sufficient. You can not see it but aparently this was used before vodabucks. Then he asked your imei number and to type codes into your phone to convert the funds into these points. In the mean time I sent him the airtime... Then he send me a sms with standard bank reference to say another sms will follow with the pin to withdraw your prize money - this is reveived from the same number he phoned me from ***. Then he pretend to phone Standard bank to enquire where the next sms is and then he phoned me back. Saying that I need to proove that I donated funds to any one more than R800. Of course no one has this. Then he said that as a special favour to Vodacom customers, I can go to a Pep store and transfer money to a relative. The minimum would be R810.... So, I did it. Then this guy phone again and asked all the detail on the slip. He was a little upset when I confirmed that the pin code is not the last 4 digits of my phone like he asked. He then asked me wat the pin is because he need to verify that it is still an active transfer.... I refused. He kept on trying to tell me we waisted his time with questioning him and if I was not interested in doing this he will gladly return the airtime and I must then give someone else the chance to win if I am sceptical. Then I told him I am in the mall at the Vodacom and that I want to confirm the competion or selection of prizes... Then he disconnected the call. Since then I had no call from him again. Vodacom store in Lakeside mall referred me to their call center. When I spoke to the call center agent, she confirmed that this is a ****. She confirmed what they do and that they use pre-paid or unregisteded sim cards then discard it after the **** is completed. Needless to say that the number goes straight to voicemail when I phone. The purpose of me logging this on Vodacom is not to give Vodacom a bad rating. It is to ensure someone else does not get ****med the same way. I really do appreciate the call cente agent's attention to this and the advice she gave me. Unfortunately I can not recall who I spoke to but I called today at 14:48. Thank you Vodacom for the good service I received from your call center agent today!
