Vodacom's reason for not returning lost data

Dane Larson, Vodacom’s IT specialist called me at 08:35 on 29 August to explain why Vodacom would not return data that I had lost due to Vodacom’s data wipe out saga in August. Dane responded to an e-mail I sent to then outlining the time it should have taken with a good link, had I used the link for the full time to upload or down only 1 Giga byte of data. Simply put (8 X 10 power of 9 )/ (4 X 10 Power of 6 ) ie for (4 mega bit per second on a good 4G link)to determine the time. 15 gig would indicate 7,5 hours and I had not been on the internet for close to that time, and certainly not upgrading downloading or uploading for a fraction of the time. Dane claimed that he could prove that with a 300 Kbit data rate, it would take a fraction of the time to use the data and that my calculations were nonsense. I was asked why only I was experiencing these problems. I asked Dane to forward me their findings and calculations so that I may use this when I communicate with ICASA. Evidently Dane works with ICASA on a weekly basis, I can understand why. Dane, I do apologize for telling you that you were talking bull, -I may have used a stronger word - and that with experts like you, it is understandable that Vodacom are in the mess they are. My windows 10 tools menu and Internet usage indicate a 30 day usage of 1.8 Gig at the time, I believe this to be more reliable than Vodacom's records.

Dear Mr Jordaan

Please note that feedback has been provided.

See http://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/services/internet/lte for the Vodacom LTE speeds.

Kind Regards

Thanks for responding Dane, I am glad that you put this in writing. According to you I used more than 30 Gig in August. I only have a 10 gig contract and carried over 5 gig from the previous month, when I complained about this loss, Vodacom allocated me 6 Gig which also disappeared down the Vodacom August bottomless pit. After that I bought first 1 Gig that was lost and then another 1 gig that I still have most data of. This does not add up to 30 gig. I can assure you that Vodacom does cut off when data is perceived to be used. This clearly shows that Vodacom have serious problems in data management. As for your claims on LTE speeds, in our area I run Ping and Tracert tests regularly. Turn around and lag times are poor, packet losses do occur, we have no where near the ideal speeds you claim, and 3 to 4 Gbps is regarded as good. In short, you are still talking bull, but now you have put it in writing which is good, I now have something to present ICASA with.
