Vodacom's phone insurance is now a flushing of money down the drain
I had an insurance claim on a ****** phone - a Samsung Galaxy A34. Upon claiming, I requested a Samsung Galaxy A37, which would be next in line after my now 2-year-old ****** phone - in order to measure to it and not be redundant too soon.
I bought the lost phone for R7000 two years ago, which is what the Samsung A37 costs today. Vodacom refused me taking the Samsung A37, despite my willingness to pay whatever the access. Their reasoning is that they cannot put me in a better position than I was before I lost my phone. That sounds reasonable - except, why is Vodacom refusing me to put myself in a better position by paying extra?
Vodacom is basically saying that I will perpetually be stuck with an outdated phone should I ever need to claim again. Phone insurance is expensive because of the nature of the asset - but why is now Vodacom refusing their part of the obligation on the nature of an asset that we pay high premiums for?
How does Vodacom force me to move from the A30 series to the A20 series? This renders the insurance useless! Mind you, I have not claimed in well over 4 years. This is completely disheartening. I did not choose the misfortune that befell me. Why is Vodacom applying a blanket, punitive approach?
I am moving from an A34. I want to pay the extra that it take to be able to move to an A37. I do not want this A27 that is being forced down my throat!
Additionally, their telephone consultants are disgustingly rude - completely forgetting that they are dealing with people who have just possibly endured a traumatic situation that has brought this loss of asset on them. I was being screamed at by a lady who promised me that our conversation is being recorded - but she ended up hanging up on me after I'd continuously asked her to stop screaming at me so I have no reference of the call - just that her name is Constance.
These events unfolded while I was at Vodacom Wonderpark - but everyone in the store was completely, extremely helpful and empathetic to my plight - it is not their fault - but that of Vodacom's bureaucracy.
P. S. They were only prepared to have me pay access for the Samsung Galaxy A36 - but how do I pay for a phone that is being phased off the market and is no longer being held in store.
