Vodacom's LTE Connection Is Pathetic! GO WITH MTN!

As a responsible consumer, I did extensive research on the best possible LTE internet product on the market. I looked at MTN, Cell C and Telkom, as well as third-party providers such as Afrihost, Axxess, and the like.

Eventually, Vodacom's mobile 200gb per month LTE product with Huawei Wifi Router at R799 p.m. was the best deal.

And with MyBroadband.co.za writing in a recent review that the average LTE download speed by Vodacom was the fastest on the market at 19.3 Mbps (beating MTN's 18.6 Mbps and Cell C's 10.7 Mbps) and their upload speed equally topped the market at 5.8 Mbps, I thought "ok, Vodacom are the best choice for me."

After a calamitous introduction to Vodacom's mobile LTE services (see previous review!) I thought things might come right.

OH NO!!

As a person in the media, I am interviewing numerous high profile influencers over Zoom and Skype, and need a stable and high speed connection (hence paying R799 for a capped high-speed connection seemed worth it to me). But I have had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!

Based on regular speed tests, I average about 2.6 Mbps download, 4.84 Mbps upload, and a 26 ms latency!!

This is just not good enough for reliable video calls!

I have since attempted to perform my video interviews and have had two already that have lost connection or reduced their quality, thereby rendering them useless and unusable! And only two because after such intermittent performance, I switched over to my MTN phone's hotspot which gave me incredible performance.

Now I am stuck in a 2 year contract for an inconsistent and quite frankly terribly poor internet connection! I can barely watch Netflix or YouTube at night with my family on 720p without buffering!

Of course I restart the router etc. etc. And I know that the area has good signal, because there are times when I run a speed test and I can get 35 Mbps download, 15 Mbps upload, with a 13 ms latency! So it's clearly not my signal.

I understand that Vodacom's nearby tower may have restricted bandwidth across other devices in the area, but then you must at least ensure there is enough bandwidth for your valued (???) clients to get a consistent connection during the working day!!? ESPECIALLY FOR R799 PER MONTH!

Vodacom CONTINUES to let me down with overall terrible service and now with the very product they are meant to be specialists in!!

I wish I had gone with my tried and trusted MTN. >:-(
