Vodacom Wrongfully Blacklisted Me for 4 Years – No Accountability or Apology

I was blacklisted by Vodacom for 4 years after making a R9610 settlement payment in 2020 (a cellphone contract that was due to be settled in 2021!) — intended for a valid, active account. Vodacom misallocated that payment to an old account that had already been settled in 2018, then failed to assist me when I tried repeatedly to correct their error. Despite calls, emails, and even in-store visits during the pandemic, I received no meaningful assistance. Instead, they blocked my number, reassigned it, and left me unable to use the very services I had paid for. I was later handed over to debt collectors, while Vodacom used the misallocated funds to keep billing an account I never agreed to reactivate.

This blacklisting destroyed job opportunities, my credit profile, and my financial wellbeing. Though Vodacom finally refunded the R9610 in 2024, they immediately app**** it back to themselves, offering me nothing in return for 4 years of damage. I never received an apology or compensation — only a cold response: “Go to court if you want damages.”

This is not how a billion-rand company should treat consumers. I’m sharing this so others know how Vodacom treats people — especially when they’re vulnerable.
