Vodacom witholds information in order to retain customers

In January I phoned vodacom and requested to cancel my contract. The lady I spoke to asked for my account number and tried by all means to keep me from doing that. She offered me different options and cheaper contracts even though I told her that I was unemployed and getting no income. I told her I no longer want to deal with vodacom regarding any contract, and again, that even the money I was paying off the contract with was given to me. Eventually, she realized that there was no convincing me, so she initiated the cancellation. Now I am recieving phone a call from vodacom telling me I qualify for an upgrade and that my account is in arrears. I told them that I canceled my contract and I was told to phone customer care. I phoned and spoke to a Yolisha if I am not mistaken. She said I was supposed to specifically inform the last consultant that I spoke to that I was canceling all the numbers that I am contracted to. I argued that I get a statement with one account number and it lists all the phone numbers that I am contracted to. So when I gave her the account number I assumed that I was canceling everything that I have with vodacom. I also recieved one bill under the same account number. When I enquire about the amount owing, vodacom informs me of the amount my account is owing which is inclusive of all the numbers. Not each number individually. So I thought as long as I give the account number that starts with an I, it encompasses everything. Now I am being told that is not the case. I also asked that if my contracts have expired, why am I being charged the same amount just for data? Why am I still being charged like I am still paying for devices? Why am I being charged R1500 just for data and airtime? After almost an hour of the back and forth, I was told to make payment arrangements, pay, and then ask for a refund afterwards, even though I have mentioned numerous times that I do not have the money. That was the solution offered. And judging by what I have dealt with, I know I will be getting no refund. I also asked that if I am clearly stating that I am unemployed, and receiving no income, how did she think I was going to pay for the rest of the numbers? I believe that the information was kept from me to solicit more money out of me. Why else would they offer a contract to an unemployed person when they are canceling another, even if it's cheaper? Vodacom only cares about retaining clients and threatening them with ITC when they can no longer pay. Vodacom has caused me emotional and financial distress, and frustration. As a consumer I feel like I am being taken advantage of. Vodacom doesn't divulge information to consumers if it is going to benefit them.
