vodacom warranty a joke

I bought my nephew a brand new blackberry 9720 in December 2014. He tells me the phone is not charging. We take it to vodacare in pmb only to be told that there is a problem with the charging unit. We are told this is not covered in the warranty of the phone and are given a quote of R1710. I find this ridiculous the phone is 6 months old and is in no way damaged how does this not fall under the warranty of the phone. Terrible service from vodacom. I have 5 contacts with vodacom and I am going to change to a different network who actually give a hoot about the customer.
