Vodacom VIP Contract: Full Charges, Minimal Service
In mid-May, I signed a two-year VIP contract with Vodacom. The sales consultant, Anthony, was exceptionally courteous and provided all the necessary information. However, problems began the moment I left the Vodacom office at Table Bay Mall: WhatsApp functionality was unstable, Android Auto wouldn’t connect properly in my car, and further issues kept appearing. I raised this with Anthony, suggesting that the phone might simply be faulty and should be replaced. He ignored the suggestion and instead referred me to a Samsung technician. The issue was temporarily resolved — but I still had to return to the Vodacom office four times in total. During my third visit, one of the consultants openly displayed irritation at my presence and refused to assist or even answer basic questions.
In June, the situation escalated. Almost all applications on the phone stopped working, except WhatsApp and Telegram. I could no longer access banking apps, navigation, or any of the essential tools I rely on for work. This “technical failure” occurred over the Youth Day long weekend.
When I returned to the store, it became clear that the device could have been replaced early on, if Anthony had acted within the initial return window. Instead, under Vodacom’s policy, the phone now had to be sent in for diagnostics, and no replacement device was offered by default. My dissatisfaction with the service was clearly visible, and I was eventually provided with a temporary phone. However, the backup failed to restore properly, leaving me without access to critical apps and data.
I won’t go into further detail about how long it took to send the phone for assessment or how poor the communication was throughout the process. What matters is that I was left without a functioning device for another week, all while receiving payment reminders from Vodacom for a service that, quite plainly, was not being delivered.
To make matters worse, I am now constantly subjected to a stream of *****ulent spam messages — which represents a serious breach of both trust and data security, adding to an already disappointing experience.
It is now painfully clear that Vodacom is not providing the VIP-level service it continues to charge me for, with near-perfect punctuality. I would strongly prefer to terminate this contract immediately, as I do not believe Vodacom is upholding its side of the agreement in exchange for the nearly R3000 deducted from my account each month.
At the very least, I expect appropriate compensation for the time lost and the inability to access the paid VIP services.
I expect a prompt and meaningful resolution to this situation, not another polite, generic response from “Customer Care”.
