Vodacom UnInsurance **********

On 22 April 2018 I took my son's damaged iPhone to Vodacom Eastgate to hand it in for a repair to the screen. The phone is insured by Vodacom Insurance.

A week later I received a call from Winnie at Vodacom Eastgate to advise me that they cannot repair the screen and that they need to send the phone to Head Office for a possible write-off assessment. I agreed to this.

A day later, Winnie called to advise that they cannot send the phone to Head Office becasue FindMyiPhone was still active. At this point mys son was back in Cape Town and Vodacom Eastgate could not provide me with a loan phone. I then purchased another Handset and sent it to my son so that he could get the 2-step verification code from Apple in order to log into his Apple account and remove the device from his profile (as per instructions from Winston at Vodacom Eastgate).

Once he received the new handset, together, we logged into his account and I removed the device. This was 11 May 2018. I then immediately called Winston at Vodacom Eastgate to advise him that we have removed the device and they can now send it to Head Office for the assessment. Winston assured me that he would relay the message to Winnie.

I heard nothing from Vodacom and so called Vodacom Eastgate on 31 May 2018 to follow up on progress with the assessment. At this point Winnie advised me that FindMyiPhone was still active and that they have not sent the phone to Head Office because of this. Winnie then said I must speak to Winston because "You were talking to Winston so he must help you". I then lost my cool and decided to terminate the call.

After reading through all the terms and conditions of my insurance, I could not find a clause in there that says an assessment is dependent on FindMyiPhone being switched off.

It is now more than a month since handing the phone in and I am being sent from pillar to post by Vodacom. This is so shocking that I am considering cancelling all my insurance with them as they obviously do not have the process in place to deal with a claim effectively.

So if you are thinking of upgrading and taking their insurance on your phone. DON'T, you will be sorry if you try to claim.

Wow! So the response to my complaint is "Official business reply". Yet another process failure at Vodacom.
