Vodacom unable/unwilling to cancel contract after term ended
1. Mid-January I inquired at the Vodacom store in Canal Walk to cancel my contract. They told me that this can not be done in store, but that I need to phone 082 111 when the contract ends. 2. Late January I phoned 08211 to cancel my contract. With the first call they told me they are unable to help me as they are on the new system and the number in question was still on the old system. They told me that someone on the old system would phone be back, this never happened. 3. On the second call I made to the call centre early in February 2019 (before 11 Feb.), the gentleman that helped me told me that my contract will be cancelled at the end of February and my last payment would be at the beginning of March. I agreed and told him I wanted proof of this arrangement. He said he is unable to send me an e-mail and that I would receive an SMS with a reference number. 4. This contract was supposed to end in February (either beginning or end Feb.) 5. On 4 March there was a deduction of R808,02 6. On 2 April there was another deduction of R802,02 7. On 4 April I phoned the call centre again, again they told me that this particular consultant is on the new system and that they will need to phone me back. They never phoned back. 8. On 08:10am 5 April I got hold of someone who were able to log onto the old system and she informed me that the contract was not cancelled in February and that she will need to get clearance from her superior to firstly cancel the contract and secondly reimburse me for the deductions made in February and March. Again, I asked for proof of our telecom and she told me that I will receive an SMS with a reference number. I never received an SMS. 9. I phoned back at 05:07pm on 5 April and the consultant again said that she is on the new system and that she cannot help me, I said that I would like to talk to her superior, she told me that there was no superior on duty. I told her that I was not going off the line until this issue was resolved. She told me to hold. 12 minutes later she came back and told me that she will be able to cancel my contract, but she will not be able to arrange the reimbur*****t. I told her that I am not happy with this arrangement and that I would like to talk to Vodacom’s legal department. She jumped at the opportunity to give me the legal department’s number. ********** 10. As ********** was only open during business hours I only phoned 8 April to find that this is only for Vodacom to collect debt. And that they cannot help me. 11. I further had a look at some websites and found that this is a common problem and that this is not an isolated incident. 12. I laid a complaint with ICASA on 17 May and followed up on 28 May but didn't get a response. 13. Another deduction of R839,03 was made at the start of June. I therefore ask of Vodacom to: 1. Cancel the contract 2. Reimburse me for the months of Feb-June 3. Make it possible to cancel a contract in store.
