Vodacom Turned My Cancellation Into a R6,438.86 Debt I Never Authorised
**VODACOM — HOW DOES A SIMPLE CANCELLATION TURN INTO R6,438.86 OF DEBT?**
I am absolutely disgusted and frustrated with Vodacom and the way my account has been handled.
What started as a **simple cancellation of a R261/month 20GB data bundle** has somehow turned into **Samsung S25 Ultra upgrade that I NEVER requested**, an unauthorised debit of **R1,687.69**, months of being sent from one department to another, and now a debt collector demanding **R6,438.86** from me.
Even worse, this situation has been affecting my **credit profile/credit score month after month**.
Let me explain exactly what happened.
Around **April 2026**, I contacted Vodacom to cancel my **R204/month 20GB data bundle**, which had already been on a month-to-month basis after the original contract had expired more than two years earlier.
I was transferred to the **cancellation department**, where I was told that the cancellation would be processed and that I would receive an SMS confirming the cancellation.
I did NOT request an upgrade. I did NOT request a Samsung S25 Ultra. I did NOT authorise a new contract.
Then, on **26 May 2026**, my bank account was debited **R1,687.69**.
The transaction details clearly show:
**VODACOM *** I***** **Transaction date: 26 May 2026** **Amount: R1,687.69**
Because I immediately recognised Vodacom on the transaction, I went to the nearest Vodacom store at **Mall@Carnival** to find out what was happening.
The consultant checked the system and told me that the debit was apparently for a **Samsung S25 Ultra**.
I was shocked.
I explained that I had contacted Vodacom to **CANCEL my existing data bundle**, not to upgrade my contract or take a Samsung S25 Ultra.
The consultant then told me that the upgrade had apparently been processed by the **Rewards Department** and that I needed to contact them.
I contacted the Rewards Department, only to be given another number to call — **and that number did not even work**.
At another point, someone from Vodacom contacted me asking whether I wanted an upgrade. I explained the entire situation to them and told them that I was already dealing with an upgrade that I had **never requested**.
Once again, I was given numbers to call.
Still no resolution.
And now it gets even worse.
I have now received an SMS from what appears to be the debt collection process stating:
> **“Hi Thabang Lekwadi, we can help unsuspend your Vodacom numbers. Pay R6438.86 or call *** VVM ***.”**
So somehow, the original **R1,687.69 debit** has now turned into **R6,438.86 allegedly owing**.
The reference on the debt collection SMS is **I*****, which corresponds with the reference shown on my original Vodacom debit.
**How is this acceptable?**
I contacted Vodacom to cancel a service.
Somehow an upgrade for a Samsung S25 Ultra appeared on my account.
I disputed it.
I went to a Vodacom store.
I contacted the Rewards Department.
I called the numbers I was given.
I was even contacted by Vodacom regarding an upgrade and explained the situation again.
And despite all of this, instead of Vodacom properly investigating the matter, I am now being chased by debt collectors for **R6,438.86**.
And the consequences are not limited to the money.
**My credit score/credit profile has been negatively affected month after month as a result of this disputed account.**
So I am now being financially penalised and having my creditworthiness affected because of a contract/upgrade that I maintain I **never requested or authorised**.
At this point, I have to ask serious questions about Vodacom's internal controls and how an upgrade can apparently be processed on a customer's account without that customer knowingly requesting it.
I want Vodacom to explain:
1. **Who requested the Samsung S25 Ultra upgrade?** 2. **When was this upgrade supposedly requested?** 3. **How was the upgrade authorised?** 4. **Where is the proof of my consent/signature/authorisation?** 5. **Where is the contract or agreement that supposedly binds me to this upgrade?** 6. **Why did my cancellation request result in an upgrade appearing on my account?** 7. **Why was I debited R1,687.69 on 26 May 2026?** 8. **How did that amount become R6,438.86?** 9. **Why was this matter handed over to debt collectors while I was actively trying to resolve the dispute?** 10. **What is Vodacom going to do about the negative impact this has had on my credit profile?**
I am not interested in being passed from department to department anymore.
I am not interested in receiving another telephone number that doesn't work.
**I want Vodacom to investigate the origin of this alleged upgrade and provide documentary proof that I authorised it.**
If Vodacom cannot prove that I requested and authorised this upgrade, then I expect the unauthorised charges to be removed, the debt collection action to be stopped, and the negative information arising from this disputed account to be corrected with the relevant credit bureaus.
I have tried to resolve this through Vodacom's own channels.
I went into a store. I called departments. I followed the instructions given to me. I tried the numbers Vodacom provided.
And somehow I am the one left with a **R6,438.86 debt collection demand and an increasingly damaged credit profile.**
**Vodacom, this is no longer just bad customer service. This needs a proper investigation.**
I want **answers, accountability and a resolution — not another number to call.**
