Vodacom tricks customer into accepting 24-month contract
Today I app**** for a month-to-month fibre service from Vodacom. What should have been an easy and straightforward process turned into a living nightmare for me, for the reasons I will explain below.
First, I tried to order the package on the internet - 20mbs/2mbps uncapped month-to-month special costing R860 on a month-to-month basis. After filling in all sorts of forms, I was unable to place the order because their database inexplicably and mistakenly listed me as a company.
Second, I called Vodacom Sales try to do it telephonically. An agent took down all the details and sent me pre-approval documents and forms to complete. I looked at these carefully and also became suspicious when I was asked to enter detailed bank information - I suspected that she had mistakenly selected the 24 month contract instead of the month-to-month one. Unfortunately there is NOTHING obvious on the documents to explain that it was 24 months. To my horror, when I chose to accept this quote, I received a return e-mail in which it showed that I have now been locked into a 24-month contract.
I HATE contracts. Something always goes wrong with them and I never wanted one. Furthermore, I am in all likelihood going to move at the end of the year. I am now sitting with something that I do not want because of the Sales Representative's mistake. When I contacted her to try to resolve the problem, she simply passed the buck to customer support. I held on for close to 15 minutes before giving up.
I would like to escalate this mess to the highest level possible, and I want the following solution, please:
Immediately cancel my 24 month contract. Immediately activate my month-to-month contract. Apologise.
I do not want this to take up any more of my time. It was NOT my mistake, is not my problem and needs to be resolved by the person responsible.
