Vodacom ties you down to enter into a new contract with lies and misrepresentation

My contract has run out and my handset was still good. In August 2021, I got a call from the Vodacom salesman. I wanted to keep on a pay as you go basis, but the salesman convinced me to enter into a new 24-month contract by lying and misrepresenting the terms of the contract.

The salesman assured me several times that, should I require a new handset, I can simply upgrade at any time. Now Vodacom refuses to allow me to upgrade, stating that I am only eligible to upgrade in March 2023. I requested Vodacom several times to listen to the recording where they will hear me repeatedly asking the salesman if I can upgrade at any time and the salesman repeatedly lying to me.

My 24-month "contract" was based on misrepresentation and lies. And Vodacom refuses to listen to the recording. It seems that the salesmen can chase commissions by lying and it is fine with Vodacom.

Reviewer Update
Following on my review and call centre complaints, Vodacom has reversed the upgrade and refunded me for the handset charged. I was able to go into store yesterday and to upgrade to a new handset.

Shoutout to the staff at Vodacom in Watercrest Mall, who were very helpful and friendly. Specifically Nothando. I am satisfied with the result. It is just a pity that I had to go this route to get it resolved.
