Vodacom taking advantage of older people
I am writing this review about an experience my friend, Janette McKenzie had at this store. In August 2022 Janette went to Vodacom in Greenstone Mall to buy a new phone as an upgrade on her existing contract. She has been a loyal customer of Vodacom for 30 years. She clearly told the staff that she was an older lady (76 years of age) and that she had difficulty operating advanced technical phones. She wanted a simple phone to use. The staff in the shop sold her the latest and most technical advanced Samsung Galaxy phone. She returned the phone the next day as she was unable to use it. The store refused to take back the phone and she was told she "...just had to get used to it." According to the store Janette had also received a free Samsung watch. Janette never received any watch. When Janette's son asked that the incident be checked on the store's cameras, the request was ignored. The store's owner has refused to talk to Janette. Vodacom has not resolved this matter, despite extensive correspondence. Letters have been written to the CEO of Vodacom by Janette's son, a certain Daniel has been corresponded with, as well as a certain Rudzani Lithole. The problem has not been solved. The staff at Vodacom took advantage of an older person, selling her a very expensive phone she cannot use. Now every month she pays for a phone she cannot use. She returned the phone the very next day, well within what is allowed as the "cooling down" period.
I myself have had a similar, bad experience with Vodacom some years ago, which was only resolved once I contacted the Consumer Council. I then went over to Cell C and have had no bad experiences with Cell C.
