Vodacom "*****ing" money through charging for mobile content services

To my complete horror, i noticed on my invoice/bill that i had been charged for "mobile content services" to the tune of R34 per day! I usually don't get a chance to look at my bill and because i use quite a high amount of data within a month due to my job, the overall bill didn't alarm me... Although it was quite high every month and i just thought it was due to Vodacom's excessive charges for data. On closer inspection i saw this charge of over R600 per month for these "content services" which i had never seen, heard of or how they got onto my phone. Paid subscription services for i do not have a clue what for. This has been there for over a year, so vodacom has essentially overcharged me by R12,000. I did not knowingly sign up for any service and obviously once something is clicked, it disppears and out of mind, while they collect R34 at the end of every day for nothing. Absolutely disgusting. When speaking to the customer services consultant, he told me that this was a common complaint at Vodacom and that what often happens is that the so called mobile content services providers display an 'ad' pop up and in order to get rid of it on your screen, you are encouraged to press the 'x' on the top right. Makes sense right. But in doing this, you automatically sign up for these per day subscription services for ring tones or games or whatever. I do not engage in any of these activities and the fact is there is no opt-in option where you need top explicitly accept these "services". Vodacom then have the cheek to come back to me and say that "as a gesture of good will" they are refunding me R2200. What an insult and to frame is as "their gesture of good will." The very fact they are refunding me is an admission that perhaps the way they allow these 3rd party content providers to **********ly "sign-up" unwitting Vodacom customers to these daily subscriptions is not focusing on looking after or protecting their clients at best and at worst is downright theft. They surely take a cut of the revenue for each customer that has to pay these daily services. I will take the fight to vodacom, and i don't mind if i spend plenty of thousands to bring this issue to the fore and make other people aware of it. How much are vodacom making by this scheme that they have in place. Their defence will rest on "the customer signed up for this" but i will explore in detail how these services come about and how they get people to accept paying R34 a day!!! for services which are **********. I will expose how much Vodacom are making from this and will use all measures of social media, the CPA, wendy knowler and Carte Blance to get this off the ground. If you've had a similar complaint, please let me know... **********
