Vodacom SIM Swap *****

27/03/2017

Yesterday afternoon my phone stopped working (I could not receive / make calls). I went to Vodacom (Mall @ Reds Centurion) this morning. They determined that the problem was with the SIM, but could not rectify it. After attempting to rectify the problem, they stated that I will have to do a SIM swap. The SIM swap was done at 10h24

I drove to my office and immediately noticed 3 once off payment notifications on my e mail. I immediately phoned the Standard Bank ***** line.

I then phoned Vodacom to see what if they could do to stop this. They suggested I go back to the Vodashop, which I did. They suggested I do another sim swap, which I did.

Then I had a call from Standard bank ***** division informing me that both the current and credit account had been cleaned out completely. They stated that I had to go to the police station to do an affidavit and send this to this address

I went to the police station, they told me that I have to bring bank statements to prove the money was taken. I then went to the bank. They printed statements for me. I went back to the police station. They did the affidavit.

Please take note of the following:

I am very careful with my cards. I only ever do internet banking on my own laptop in a secure environment.

28/03/2017

When I put the “new” SIM in my card I received sms notification from Vodacom of changes that occurred 18h50 on Sunday 26/03/2017

The total value of the ********** transactions R39 046

I have spoken with Standard Bank and they stated that SAPS will have to subpoena the bank with a section 205(court order) for the ban to release the information on the bank accounts the funds was transferred to.

28/08/2017

I went to Vodaworld in Midrand. The customer service person showed no concern and did not know what to do. After prompting from me she gave an e mail address ********** I could send the details of the ***** to. I spent over 1 hour with her and was still not able to make or receive calls. The following morning I received an e mail from this customer care consultant, she advised me to switch my phone off and on. Once I had done this the phone was working again.

I sent 3 e mails to the ********** on the 28th, requesting that I be contacted and I also sent the SAPS affidavit. I received an automated response that I will be contacted within 24 hours. I have to date not been contacted by this department.

31/03/2017

I have sent the information to Vodacom ***** division, but have had no response from them. Last night I received another sms notification from Vodacom again on changes made to my SIM.

06/04/2017

I received a phone call from Standard Bank informing me that they will not be refunding me as “I must have compromised my account at some point” in order for this to occur. Upon my protest and asking how they came to this conclusion I was informed that they will send me the details of the Banking Ombud to take the matter further.
