Vodacom Sim Swap *****

Vodacom enables sim swap ***** and refuses to take responsibility.

During December 2023 I was out of the country on holiday and had no mobile network. A *****ster somehow completed a sim swap on my number. Luckily I was made aware by one my friends by email and immediately stopped my holiday to return to SA. The *****ster had impersonated me on WhatsApp and ****med my contacts of over R10k, which would have been more if I had not intervened immediately.

Vodacom allows sim swaps to proceed if you don't reply to an SMS they send you. This is a huge security flaw if you have no service, your phone is off, you are out of the country, your phone is ****** etc. Additionally, they have no security checks to verify who is making sim swap requests. When I filed a police report, the police say this has been happening regularly for months if not years.

I've been a long time customer of Vodacom and am very disappointed. Their customer support and ***** department take you round in circles for weeks. I would like Vodacom to take responsibility for their actions since there is clearly a security flaw in their system. I would like to be refunded the money that was ****med from my family and friends.
