Vodacom Rips Off Customers

I had a two year data package with Vodacom that I was not using. In spite of signing a contract for a stipulated amount each month, the fees were increased 3 times in the two years of having the contract. The contract was due to end in May 2025. I phoned Vodacom in February 2025 to find out what I needed to do to cancel the contract. The person I spoke to told me they could downgrade my package so I would pay less each month, but it would still be valid for the same time period as my original contract and I could phone to cancel in April 2025. When I phoned to cancel in April 2025, I discovered that my contract had been extended for a further 2 years, without my knowledge or consent and when I queried this, I was told it would be escalated and they would find the recording of the conversation relating to the downgrade of the contract (where I had double checked that the downgrade would not affect the time period of the original contract) and I would be contacted. After over a week of waiting to be contacted, I phoned again and spoke to a different person who told me that I could pay a Premature Cancellation fee and end the contract immediately. I completed the form, paid the fee and thought that was the end of my dealings with Vodacom. BUT on the 2nd May 2025, I had the full monthly contract fee of the original contract debited from my cancelled account. When I phoned to query the payment that had been taken out of my account, I was told the Premature Cancellation fee was actually the remaining balance owing for April and that the fee taken in May was the cancellation fee. Given that the form I completed clearly stated "Premature Cancellation Quotation", the amount I paid has to have been the cancellation fee and I see no reason why more money has been taken out of my account, given that the account has been cancelled! It seems like every person you speak to at Vodacom tells you something different, there doesn't seem to be any standard training and the agents can tell you whatever they want to, with no consequences if the information they have shared is incorrect. They can also take money out of your account at any time. They can also increase their fees at any time, in spite of the consumer signing a 2 year contract for a stipulated fee. I will certainly not consider using Vodacom for any services again.
