Vodacom Rip-off
On 12/ 12/ 2017 I received a call from a Vodacom agent offering me a new 5 gig Data contract for about R199, which came with a Huawei Router. I thought it was a great deal as I was paying R308.50 (for equal data) on the current one expiring end of month. I however expressed concern about deteriorating network coverage in my area but was assured the router would fix the problem. I agreed to the terms. On 13 /12/2018 I called Vodacom customer care about the new contract (which was not an upgrade). The agent asked me questions about the expiring contract and was alarmed to learn that from 2015 to 2017 I was paying over R300 for 5 Gigs (plus CLI), no device. She made me aware I was overcharged by almost R40 for two years. She asked me to go to the vodacom shop I took out the contract with to report the matter. The agent went on to tell me the new contract i just signed cost R129 and not R199. It emerged during the conversation that Vodacom had a number of shops doing business for them, all just referring to themselves as Vodacom. The agent promised to cancel the new contract I took out the previous day and upgrade my old contract for R129 p.m. I agreed. I went to the Vodacom shop where I took out the contract in 2015 and queried my contract. A query for a refund was made with Vodacom but was never paid, up to today. Several similar queries were logged by myself with customer care to no avail. In the meantime the new contract was never cancelled as promised and the upgrade was effected. I ended with two routers with no data network. From the 15/12/2017 when I received my first router to 21/12/2017 I made several calls to customer care to cancel all contracts since the area I live in, a mere 10 km from PTA city centre, no longer had data network like as it used to. On the 21/12/2017 I took both routers to Vodaworld as I was going on holiday. I served my cancellation notice personally but was returned with the routers - the courier would collect. On 27/12/2017 a new debit order of R180.45 was made by Vodacom. I did not stop it as I was told all monies debited on my account would be refunded. I never received any refund. Calling customer care was like calling myself so I stopped. The routers were collected by the courier and the contracts cancelled. But refund for R40 overcharging for two years was never made, nor the R180.45 debited on 27/12/2018. I want to state that I am not that much worried by money ****** from me, but for Vodacom to want to sell me a contract when they no longer have service in my area is outrageous. The pain I continue to endure is that my wife still has an active data contract with them, but relies on my Telkom hotspot to read her FB messages and emails.
