Vodacom Reputiate Claim for Damaged Phone

Earlier this year, my Sony Xperia mobile phone stopped working. Vodacom is the service provider, and the phone is insured through Vodacom as well (Policy VH***1)
The handset was taken to Vodacom for repairs. After keeping the phone for three months, Vodacom told us that the handset cannot be repaired, and we must claim from insurance. In the interim, we have had to put the Vodacom simcard into an old phone in order to make and receive calls. The phone was then returned by Vodacom a couple of weeks ago.
Last week, the phone was taken into a Vodacom shop, with the necessary documentation to register a claim. The staff at the store informed us that the claim will be processed, and a new phone provided.
Earlier today, I was phoned by someone from Vodacom insurance, who informed me that the claim has been denied, as the simcard was used in another phone since the Sony Xperia phone stopped working. When I challenged the lady about the validity of this, she put the phone down on me.
This must be some of the worst service I have experienced, both from the Vodacom Service Department, and the Vodacom Insurance Department
