Vodacom Refusing to End Contract After End Date

I have heard many bad reviews about Vodacom, but I thought things would work better for me, not knowing I’ll too be another unsatisfied customer reviewer. I took out a contract with Vodacom on 22 July 2022, which was due to end on 22 July 2025. On 1 August 2025 at 00:00, I was surprised to receive new data, airtime, and SMS allocations, even though my contract had ended in July.

That same day, I went to a Vodacom branch. The staff there told me they couldn’t assist and referred me to call customer care on (***). When I called, the agent told me I should have given one month’s notice before the end date. This makes no sense, as my written contract clearly had a specified end date (22 July 2025).

The agent also told me my benefits would only end in September, despite me calling on 1 August. She promised to send me an email confirming our discussion and the cancellation request. I never received it till date. Instead, I only got an SMS saying Vodacom would not cancel my contract unless I confirmed, which I already had.

Today, 12 August, I called again. This time, the agent falsely claimed my first call was on 5 August. He then tried to pressure me into upgrading with a reduced price, which I refused. He also told me to call again on 1 September, which is illogical as I’ll just be charged and allocated new benefits again. He also promised to send me an email confirming our conversation and that my contract will end in September, but once again, nothing was sent.

I am now requesting Vodacom to immediately cancel all numbers linked to my name and account. I will be moving to another service provider. If this matter is not resolved by the end of this week, I will escalate this matter to ICASA, the Consumer Ombudsman, and my legal representatives. I have been patient long enough, but Vodacom has failed to act in good faith.
