Vodacom Red Emirates - Is this False Advertising?
I have been a Vodacom customer my entire life and upgraded to a Vodacom Red Package due to my high usage. I was very pleased to learn about the discounted flights on Emirates for Vodacom. I am sorry to say however that the advertised discounts is definitely not what it seems.
I tried to book a Business Class Ticket (the stated discount is 35%). I went online onto the Emirates website to get the initial price (obviously to work out what the ticket price would be after the 35% discount). Then the misleading starts...
When you do a flight search on Emirates, ticket prices are classed as Saver, Flex and Flex Plus. These are the standard options on the website that appears when you search. I selected the Saver option plus the flight numbers and requested a quote from Vodacom Red Travel Service. When the quote came back, it did not give 35% discount as advertised. When I queried this it stated that the 35% discount does not apply on the Saver option as this is deemed as a promotional price. This is in my opinion extremely misleading.
When you look at the website, no where does it state that Emirates Saver Price does not count: https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/services/vodacom-red/red-emirates
I was then referred to the fine print: https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/terms/promotions/vodacom-emirates-terms
Vodacom Red stated that the Saver price on Emirates Website is a 'Tactical Fare' and do not qualify:
DISCOUNTED FARE TERMS AND CONDITIONS Discounts valid for Vodacom RED contract customer: • First Class: 25% • Business Class: 35% • Economy Class: 50% • Sale or Tactical fares: None
I dispute this. A sale or promotion is exactly that...a promotion that runs - samples here; https://www.emirates.com/za/english/book/featured-fares/?filter1=airport&airport=JNB&utm_medium=email-re&utm_source=ek&utm_campaign=SFMC_za_en_featuredfares_ ********** 9_in&utm_term=skb_xx_xx_jnb_xx_xx_xx&utm_content=CCFEAFARES_mainZA_headercta-exploredestinations&utm_pid= ********** 1&utm_mid= ********** 8
The price that comes up when you search is not a promotional fare...its a standard fare. I find this promotion of Vodacom Red to be misleading...
I disputed the quote and was referred to a Manager. The Manager called me back and said it is what it is and as they simply work as an agency on behalf of the Vodacom Red promotion, they will escalate this to Vodacom. He did however say that he does not expect Vodacom to reply to this query as what I am querying is covered in the terms and conditions...
He was right...one week on and no feedback.
Very disappointed with these marketing tactics from Vodacom!
