Vodacom problems with security - and then inefficient on ***** processes

On Tuesday this week, somebody - supposedly from Vodacom Midrand - phoned me to verify whether I had app**** for a new cell phone contract in Bela Bela that morning. I hadn't, although it appeared someone using my name and id number had! The caller agreed to send me an email confirming this breach of security so that I could open a case with the police. He didn't. When I phoned customer help to follow up the next day, the new person looked at all the recent happenings on my account, including the previous day's, and indicated that this was probably an inside job and needed to be forwarded to the ***** department. (It appears that although the caller did work for Vodacom, he hadn't cancelled the new contract application and had replaced my address with a Bela Bela address.) Obviously, I am hugely concerned about the security of my personal information, including bank details which are on the Vodacom system. Whether this is a case of identity theft broadly, or internal Vodacom *****, it is of the utmost urgency yet Vodacom does not appear to think so. This morning (48 hours later) I received an SMS from Vodacom asking me to send through an affidavit and copy of my id document. An affidavit saying what? I cannot put one together until I know what happened. Yet now I cannot get hold of anyone to assist me with this so I cannot move on with the matter. I have responded to the SMS, asking for clarification and have tried three different email addresses related to this issue - and received one response requesting that I please indicate the Reference no. on the subject line - which I had, in fact, already done. Vodacom clearly has a lot of systems and processes in place but none of them seem to help to keep our sensitive personal information secure or enable us to communicate effectively with them when there is a problem. They don't deserve my trust and loyalty.

Reviewer Update

It has now been 5 days since Vodacom picked up this complaint and yet NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED YET. A consultant did phone me 5 days ago - he had not properly informed himself about my case and said he would get back to me with answers. That was last week Thursday - I am still waiting. And this is not a trivial issue - we are talking about ***** and possible IDENTITYT THEFT - yet this does not prompt Vodacom to act with efficiency.

Vodacom is getting better and better at automated responses and going through the motions of customer service - and WORSE and WORSE at dealing with problems!
