Last week I received a phone call from somebody purporting to be from Vodacom. They told me that my current subscription is being phased out and that they need to migrate me to a new package that would cost me less per month. I am usually very suspicious about these kinds of calls but they got me on a bad day. When the telemarketer transferred me to her "manager" who then asked me to repeat all my personal information, alarm bells started going off. I said that I do not feel comfortable (my exact words), that I do not consent to anything and that they need to send me this information over email. A few days later a package "from Vodacom" arrived. Like a fool, I signed for it, and it turned out to be a speaker. I had not ordered a speaker of any kind. This morning, I got another phone call, saying that my second speaker was being delivered. I phoned Vodacom to query this. It turned out, that all my contracts (even numbers I no longer use) had been upgraded and that two speakers had been added!
After a lot of back and forth (the Vodacom consultants were very helpful, at least), we discovered that this had been done by Elite Mobile WITHOUT MY CONSENT (the calls were supposedly recorded so this should be on record!) and that I now could not cancel or do anything with the packages that had been upgraded. The end result is that I was advised to turn away the couriers with the second speaker and that collection would be arranged for the one already in my possession. After three days, I will be able to phone Vodacom to cancel the subscriptions. After all of this, I plan to cancel all of my Vodacom subscriptions and move to another service provider.
Vodacom, your consultants were helpful but it was too little too late. Please do better to protect your customers from this kind of **** in future!
