Vodacom overcharge and block account!

I have recently returned from the UK to retire in Nieu Bethesda in the Eastern Cape. Because of the location of Nieu Bethesda I decided to use a router and purchased data from Vodacom as, and when I needed it. This arrangement suited my needs very well, particularly as, after I had registered my number ( ********** 290) with Vodacom, I was able to monitor my use of data online. The only problem was the cost, buying data @ R149 for 1G of data is not a cost effective way of purchasing data.

As a consequence, last month we decided to enter into a contract with Vodacom to purchase 5G worth of data per month, my wife completed the paperwork, and made her first payment on 13 September. This contract was submitted by your agent Videotronic in Grahamstown.

However, this has proved not to be a good decision, for the following reasons:

- for some unexplained reason I have not been able to monitor my data usage (i.e. check my balance) online;

- although we have made the necessary payments in terms of the contract with Vodacom, to date we have not received any data from Vodacom. We had expected to get a pro rata allocation of the 5G of data for the month of September and the full allocation of 5G for October;

- all the attempts by your agent, Videotronic, to contact Vodacom to resolve our problem (being able to review our data usage online and the missing data) over the past few weeks have failed; AND,

- more recently, on 6 September, in an attempt to resolve this matter myself, I spent at least two hours on the phone speaking with at least 5 different members of your service staff before speaking with a member of your staff who was fami**** with IT issues. Under his guidance I successfully de-registered my online account for the router number ( ********** 290) but when it came to re-registering my router number the call was discontinued by your staff for no reason. I suspect that this was due to a staff shift change as this happened around 1700h.

Today (7 September) I continued to consult with your support staff, using your 082111 number, in the afternoon and after speaking with another three consultants I eventually managed to talk with a “team leader”, (all the managers were attending a meeting!) to find out that the reason that I could not review my balance online was that our router number ( ********** 290) was now blocked as the account was considered to be in arrears by about R237, I was also informed that only my wife could pursue this matter further. Later this afternoon my wife contacted your accounts department to discover that Vodacom had over-charged her ABSA account by R500, so instead of being in arrears we should actually be considered to be in CREDIT!

As I am not able to access the internet because my data account has been blocked, and the fact that Vodacom has over-charged my wife’s account, I demand that this matter receive your urgent attention and I look forward to hearing how Vodacom propose to compensate us for the time that I have not been able to access the internet and the inconvenience and stress that trying to get this matter resolved has caused my wife and I.
