Vodacom NOT safeguarding customer personal information and give false expectations
I am so disappointed with the latest Vodacom service. I ordered my upgrade via online. I have to give credit where credit is due as well. The online site and ease with searching for a phone and the various different packages available for the same phone that better suit your pocket was really awesome. But this was exactly where the good experience stopped. I have the following 3 serious problems with regards to this order:
1. I ordered online, and online the expectation that if I purchased before 12PM, I can expect next day delivery. Now I know this was a Sunday (14 April 2019) and it was before 12PM, but then worse case scenario, I should receiving it the Tuesday. I received no confirmation and no phone call the Monday. When I called about the upgrade the Tuesday (16 April) morning, the lady told me my order still needed to be confirmed by Vodacom and someone will be in contact with me. Why she couldn't confirm it, I don't know. I never received any phone call from anybody, except for a sms on Tuesday late afternoon, that my order has been received and will be dispatched soon. On the Wednesday (17 April) at only 18:00PM, which was a day later, I received the sms saying the couriers has received my order and will deliver within 72 hours, which again, changes the initial expectation given on the site. The courier company then came and deliver it on the 18th of April mid day.
No man, come on Vodacom, in this day and age you can't advertised expectations like that, if you can't even closely live up to it. That is enough to make any customer angry, and not use your online services again.
2. My second problem with this order is a bit far more serious than point number 1. When the driver arrived from RAM Couriers. I was supposed to provide him with my ID and proof of residence, which from history experience he was supposed to scan only or verify. It shouldn't have been something that I needed to make a copy of and actually give to the driver. Where I actually have no idea where my personal details were going. or what would happen to it and if it will actually reach Vodacom and not be copied for millions of other things too. The driver from RAM couriers just had the excuse that their systems isn't working, but he can come back on Tuesday after Easter Weekend, which will mean another 4 days later. Vodacom have you not heard anything about the POPI legislation, or anything about the protection of personal information. You even print my ID number on the Vodacom Tax invoice that gets attached to the package for the entire world to see and copy. Are you guys out of your minds. If I have identity theft of my personal details especially my ID, you will surely be the first company I will try my utmost best to take to task for this. You better get your act together and fast, and get yourselves linked with home affairs and better tools for your courier companies to verify for RICA requirements, so that people's personal information is safer.
3. Btw you still have the wrong physical address from 9 year's ago on your printed tax invoice, which means you clearing do not have the systems in place to update people's personal details correctly, because the last time I've checked I had to upgrade my contract every 2 years and have to supply that exact details to you, probably 4 time since then. This makes me even worry further, in terms of what will actually happen to my personal information that I gave to the courier. It is actually clear that Vodacom do not have a process in place to make sure that personal information of their customers are received back from the courier company and safeguarded and only used for the purpose it was intended for.
