Vodacom not complying with their duties under the Consumer Protection Act
I am completely horrified by the service I received at Vodacom Cape Gate. On Black Friday I purchased a cellphone contract, my second contract with Vodacom. Upon receipt of my device, I visited the Cape Gate store to purchase screen protectors and covers for both devices. The new device I purchased was a Samsung S9 plus. The consultant advised that they only stocked one screenguard for the phone, a Body Glove Tempered Glass Screenguard. The product is advertised as having perfect adhesion, shatterproof and shock protection. The very next day after application the screenguard popped off my phone. I put it back on and it continued to pop off everyday. I was too busy to return to Vodacom. The screenguard then developed a small crack on the left side which, over a period of 2 days, spread over the width and then down the length of the screen. I managed to reach Vodacom 2 days later and was shocked at the service I received. Despite the product being sold with a one year warranty, Vodacom refused to accept liability for replacement, advising me to take it up with the Supplier directly. How can you treat your customers this way? Being an attorney, I know my rights as a consumer under The Consumer Protection Act and specifically my rights to a refund or replacement of a defective product. I should not have to approach one of VODACOMS suppliers to exercise the rights I possess by virtue of Vodacoms obligations to me as their consumer. I want my complaint to be investigated and escalated!
