VODACOM NEW EMAIL ACCOUNTS *******
My wife and I were and still are Vodacom prepaid clients for about 20 years. We have email mailboxes and addresses on vodamail at all relevant times which never required any additional payment. Yesterday we each received sms notices referring to our email accounts (in the format of 082********* informing us that as from 1 March 2022 our respective email accounts will be automatically migrated to "a new premium service" which will cost R29pm. Besides the new monthly charge we are not aware of any substatially greater functionality offered. Basically Vodacom now wants to charge us a monthly additional charge sor something that was part of the service for 20 years at no additional charge.
To add insult to injury, it is possible, in South Africa, to have a mail server hosted with your own domain and domain name with multiple email accounts at a similar monthly charge.
We have a .co.za domain which was originally connected directly to the internet (on analogue fix line) later hosted in the USA and some years ago switched to a local service provider and for quite a few years the domain hosting costs, including a mail server with up to 50 email accounts was only R10 more per month than what Vodacom wants to charge us just each for a single email account.
We are both (very) "senior citizens" with ever increading expenses and feel the sudden imposition of inflated charges for what was previously included with the prepaid cell phone charges is blantly speaking a *******.
We are seriously considering waiting untill we used most of our prepaid balances (usually between R500 to R1500 each) and then porting our numbers to an alternative service provider.
disingenously pretending to respond while, not so artfully dodging dealing with any problems and, simultanously, try to conceal their unhelpulness from the general public.
The so called but simply a pretend reply comprised two sms messages.
One dated 11:55 on 31 January stated:
"Dear Vodacom Customer.
Your service ticket
with reference number
EC-1EY9-3JYQBZ has been
closed. Thank you Vodacom."
This **********ly is meant to create the false impression that
they have actually dealt with the complaint and that the problem
was if not properly, at least amicably was solved.
This dishonest sms was repeated two more times.
Searching carefully my phone logs, there is no record to
confirm that they actually ever tried to contact me, let alone
actually contacted me at all concerning that matter.
To add insult to injury I received further sms messages
from Vodacom.
One date 11:45 also on 31 January 2022:
"Vodacom Support: We'd like
to ask 4 questions about
your recent experience with
our support team. Replies
are free of charge. 1st
question to follow. Reply
STOP to opt-out."
What an ourtright lie. There was no
recent experience.
They never properly contacted me.
This was followed at 11:46:
"SMS 1/4. Based on your last
interaction with Luyanda,
how likely are you to to
recommend Vodacom to
friends/family? SMS a score
from 0 (not at all likely) to 10
(extremely likel)"
Naturally my answer was 0.
Never had any interaction with Luyanda.
No such named person did ever contact
me or tried to contact me.
I am not even sure that a "Luyanda"
even exists.
Vodacom goes through the motions
when you try to contact them to
automatically through recorded messages
to direct you to 1946 or 1187
(*** and ***), but when
you try to dial those number you find
they no longer exists.
Vodacom is effectively a
Law unto themselves,
or possibly, more accurately a
Lawlessness unto themselves.
What a dishonest company is Vodacom.
