Vodacom Misled Me Into Contract – Now Charging Thousands Without Proper Disclosure

In February, I took out an online contract with Vodacom for a pre-owned iPhone 11. The deal was clearly presented to me as costing R300 per month, which is the only reason I agreed to the contract. However, the billing on my account has been completely unreasonable and shocking: 28 February: R256 deducted 31 March: R882.86 deducted April ***.42 This is completely unacceptable for a contract that was supposed to cost R300 per month. When I contacted Vodacom, I was told that my contract is an “open line” and that I am being charged for out-of-bundle usage once my minutes are finished. This was NEVER clearly explained to me when I signed up. The consultant who assisted me failed to disclose that I could be charged such extreme amounts. This is a clear case of misleading sales practices and failure to properly disclose important contract terms. I would never have agreed to this contract had I been informed of the financial risk. Vodacom has effectively placed me in a situation where I am being billed thousands of rand without proper warning or transparency This experience has been extremely stressful and disappointing. Vodacom needs to take responsibility and fix this immediately

I am writing to formally state that I am not satisfied with the offer Vodacom has made. While I initially agreed under frustration and exhaustion, I cannot accept their proposal that I pay 50% of the amount, as I do not have the financial means to do so.Please note that I signed the contract for R300, and I am not liable for any amount exceeding this. Given this, I am happy to escalate the matter to the next stage to ensure that the resolution is fair and in accordance with the original contractual agreement.
