Vodacom legal or not?

I was sold a wifi router over the phone by Vodacom on 20/11/2015. It was working fine until 02/12/2015. Today when I asked if there was a problem with the service, I was told that they cant help me, and that I had to take the device to a service centre myself. I explained that we are not close to any of the major centres. I was then told that I can take it to a local vodacom shop, and that they can send it in for me. She explained that while in for repairs(Up to 8 weeks) I am still going to be charged for the data. All data I dont use are also going to be forfeit! Surely this is not my fault and I cannot pay for something I am not receiving. This is in my opinion exploitation and therefore ******* and unfair. The manager responsible is Tessan Demink. She seemed very incompetant and rude.
