Vodacom left me without a working phone — and won’t take responsibility!

I bought a brand-new iPhone 17 from Vodacom East Rand Mall on 11 December 2025. It was defective from day one. When I tried to return it, the store manager refused to replace it, insisting I send it for repairs instead of following their Out of Box Failure policy.

I spent over 5 hours at another Vodacom store only to have staff confirm it qualifies as an OBF — yet the original store still refuses to help. My phone is still with AIC, and I’ve been left stranded without a device, frustrated, and out of pocket.

This is a clear violation of the Consumer Protection Act. I have escalated the matter to Vodacom’s legal department and demand immediate cancellation of the contract with no penalties.

Vodacom, this isn’t just a phone — it’s about respect, fairness, and basic customer rights. I hope others see this before trusting them with their money.

Reviewer Update
Dear HelloPeter Team,I am writing to formally escalate an ongoing and extremely frustrating matter with Vodacom, due to what I can only describe as disgusting service and a complete lack of accountability.Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue directly with Vodacom, no one is taking responsibility, and I have received no clear, written resolution. My communications are either ignored or passed between departments with no ownership or outcome. For clarity, I have formally requested the following from Vodacom in writing:
  • Written confirmation of the cancellation of my contract
  • Confirmation that no penalties, fees, or early termination charges will be app****
  • Assurance that my account will not be negatively affected in any way
I have also made it clear that should Vodacom fail to provide a satisfactory written resolution, I will continue to pursue this matter through ICASA and any other relevant regulatory or legal channels. To date, Vodacom has failed to address these reasonable requests. This ongoing lack of response and accountability is unacceptable for a company of this size and reputation.I am therefore requesting that this complaint be escalated to senior management, ideally someone from Vodacom executive leadership (CEO or CFO’s office) or Vodacom Media, as frontline support has proven ineffective.I expect a clear, written response that directly addresses the points raised above and brings this matter to a final resolution.
Thank you for your assistance in escalating this matter appropriately.
