Vodacom: just as ***** as the rest

During lockdown I realised that I won't be able to afford my Vodacom data contract and decided to cancel it before it became a problem. I tried calling their call centre several times and either got no answer or the two times I did get to speak with a consultant, my call was disconnected before being able to cancel the contract. I tried contacting them via the "Help me" service, but got a blank web page. Then I attempted to find an email address online to cancel the contract. I finally found *** and gave one month's notice on 29 June 2020. The *** informed me that "the address counldn't be found". After this I didn't know what else to do, so I stopped using the data and cancelled the DO at my bank and hoped that after the 1st missed payment, they would contact me to find out if there is a problem. Instead I received statements for my monthly installment from Vodacom for the next 3 months (but no data was loaded on my account - which was fine, because I had no need to use it) and then in October and November I actually received statements for R0.00, but no phone call or email from Vodacom to enquire my reason for non-payment. I received an SMS this morning (9 Dec 2020) that my account is in arrears. I called their call center...and actually spoke to someone (even though lines were very unclear) and was informed that I am in arrears for R650.00 and my account was suspended. Not sure how they got to that amount. I suggested that they load the data, then I would pay for it, because I just told the consultant that I cannot afford the account any more, but then I would atleast like to receive the thing that I'm paying for. But the guy said I should call accounts. I am sick and tired of companies deliberately ignoring you for months and months just so they can make money from people who are already stuggling to make ends meet.
