Vodacom is not 4U

I upgraded my contract at the beginning of November. As it was a week into the month, they told me the new contract would only start at the beginning of December - understandable and acceptable. However, when the 1st of December rolled around, when my new contract kicked in, all use of my phone ceased. I was unable to make phone calls, send messages, access data or even phone Vodacom's toll-free number or check balances. I chose a Smart Data contract where I get 2 gigs of data a month, which I have not been able to use. After three two-hour sessions at Vodacom 4U Cresta, they finally managed to fix my phonecalls and my messaging but I still could not access my data - the whole point of the contract. Again, more visits to Vodacom 4U this year and promises that the problem will be fixed within 24 hours and a week later I still had the issue. Last night, after a 40 minute call, I could finally access my data. However, I need to fax a copy of my ID to them. Fax. No email. Again, a convoluted and painful step to try and get my contract sorted. A contract that I have not been able to access for 1.5 months, yet I still have to pay for. The experience in the last few months has been appalling and I will never again recommend Vodacom to a friend. I will also make sure that everyone is warned.
