Vodacom is a ********* company

Vodacom is a *********, in June 2018 I took a phone Contract for 24 months which is supposed to have ended in May 2020. The same phone was ****** in Sept 2019 and therefore I have been paying for something I don't have already, however me understanding that a contract is binding, I continued with the payment as agreed. But Vodacom on the other end decided to continue deducting from my account from June 2020 onwards, only this time reduced monthly deductions from R410 to R239 not sure if they thought I wouldn't see. Unfortunately I was not aware of the debit orders as I don't always check my bank statement until late September. So far Vodacom has deducted R956.00 from my account without my pemission. I decided to call their call centre on the 25 Sept and spoke to Tshepo Mogobane and demanded a refund, he escalated to 'Service Request' and said I will receive a feedback latest by Wednesday 30 Sept and transffered my call to retention dept to end the contract and the 2nd consultant in the retention told me the contract will be terminated within 24hrs. As expected Vodacom didn't bother to come back to me and again using my airtime I called them back today with the reference# *** and spoke to Emmanuel who refused to give me his Surname and he told me Vodacom declined my request for a refund because I am the one who was supposed to call back after 2 years to cancel the contract and gave me the ref# 1-CC2LPCIP, Emmanuel also told me that my contract is still active and wanted to transfer me to retention for cancellation again, my airtime got finished even before Nokuphila Ndlovu could assist. My question is, what does 24 Months Contract mean if I still need to call back to end the contract, and when I took a contract they didn't mention that I need to call back at the end of the contract to end the contract.
