Vodacom Insurance - Never Again!

I have been paying insurance on my wife's contract, approx R170 per month, with the maximum limit of indemnity being approx R15k. This weekend she accidentally dropped her Iphone 6 into the pool, Vodacom in Eastgate deemed the phone irreparable. The insurance clause reads 'if your device is beyond repair, we will replace your device with a new device of the same or similar type or a good-as-new device of the same type, subject to the maximum limit of indemnity' - the insurance now wants to give us an Iphone 6S, my problem with this is Apple only supports phones for approx 4 years from release date, the Iphone 6S was released in September 2015, so theoretically this phone was no longer supported in September 2019 - why would we pay insurance to have it replaced by an obsolete phone? I am not asking for the latest model, an Iphone 8 would suffice - please advise why your insurance is doing us in?
