Vodacom Insurance biggest **** of all.
My husband took out a phone contract with Vodacom last year, and about a week ago the camera suddenly started malfunctioning whenever he tried taking pictures. Soon after, the phone displayed a message in the settings saying it could not recognise the camera because the part “might not be original.” Completely shocking for a phone bought directly through Vodacom on contract.
Since he has insurance with them, he reported the issue and was directed to the nearest Vodacom store. He handed the phone in for repairs on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Two days later, he received an SMS telling him to contact the Vodacom store to accept a quotation. When he called this morning, he was informed that his insurance had apparently been cancelled on Friday, 15 May 2026, again, shocking! because he reported the matter a few days ago and why would he cancel the insurance after reporting the phone issue, and two days later he goes to hand the phone in for repairs. Does not make sense.
He was then told someone from Vodacom would contact him, which they eventually did a few hours later. During the call, my husband was informed that Vodacom would not cover the phone because the “original SIM card is not active.” its no longer the "insurance being cancelled." This makes absolutely no sense because it is the very same SIM card he used to call the Vodacom repair store. The SIM is active every month with airtime and data top-ups from Vodacom.
This experience has been extremely disappointing and frustrating. Customers pay for insurance expecting support when something goes wrong, not excuses and technicalities to avoid assisting them.
My advice to people: think carefully before paying for Vodacom insurance, because when you actually need help, they will find a reason not to pay it.
