Vodacom Insurance a complete Rip-off
I have been a loyal Vodacom customer for over 20 years. My contract was due for renewal in January 2022, at which time I upgraded my plan and opted to purchase an iPhone 12 for cash at the Vodacom Hydepark Store. Along with renewing my SIM contract, I also updated my Vodacom Insurance policy, which included a premium adjustment to reflect the iPhone 12 handset.
Yesterday, my iPhone 12 was ******. I promptly visited a Vodacom store to file an insurance claim, only to be informed by Vodacom Insurance that my claim cannot be processed. The reason provided was that the iPhone 12 was not "linked" to my account, despite the fact that my usage of this device has been clearly reflected in Vodacom’s system since the upgrade. Furthermore:
I was told that the device registered under the insurance policy is my previous handset (iPhone 8). Vodacom Insurance cannot process a claim for the iPhone 12 because it is not registered under my policy. I also cannot claim for the iPhone 8, as I have not been using it. I contacted the Hydepark Store to obtain confirmation of my iPhone 12 purchase and the communication sent to Vodacom Insurance to update the handset details. However, I was informed that the store had undergone renovations and that they are unable to retrieve the necessary information.
To summarize:
I have been diligently paying more than R200 per month for over three years for insurance coverage that now appears to have been completely ineffective. Due to the apparent negligence or mismanagement on Vodacom's part, I am left with no recourse to claim for either the iPhone 12 or the iPhone 8. Repeated efforts to resolve this issue, including visits to the Mall of Africa and Sandton stores, have yielded no meaningful assistance from Vodacom Insurance. The lack of accountability, transparency, and resolution from Vodacom Insurance is deeply disappointing and highlights a significant failure in customer service. Despite my best efforts, I am now left with no choice but to escalate this matter to the relevant authorities, including the Ombudsman.
This experience reflects poorly on Vodacom Insurance's credibility and commitment to customer satisfaction. I don't expect any urgent or thorough investigation into this matter by Vodacom.
I will be taking this up with the Ombudsman.
