Vodacom Insurance
I recently tried cancelling my insurance with Vodacom due to their poor response times (claim submitted in Dec'18 but only finalised in Mar'19). After some effort, finrite and vodacom confirmed it was cancelled and the billing will be stopped in March 2019.
I did not received any confirmation from Vodacom or FIN-RITE or any letter from fin-rite indicating my policy is cancelled.
In absence of the above the policy is valid, from my understanding.
I then noticed that I was still paying for insurance in June'19 and therefore this was not cancelled.
Co- incidentally, I dropped my phone into water during the period.
I then proceeded to follow the claim process, as I am still paying for insurance as per my vodacom statement which reflects the cellphone insurance amount of R197 (ex Vat) for cellphone band 6 for a max amount of R12,000.
I sent my claim form to vodacom and received a message from vodacom stating the claim was approved for repairs and that I must continue to visit a vodacom shop and pay the excess (As technically I am insured with vodacom as per my instalments)
I then visited the branch and the vodacom employee dialled Finrite on my behalf to obtain the excess amount.
At this stage the agent (Shane Petersen or ***) from finrite informed me that my insurance is linked to the iphone 5S (which was the first phone given to FINRITE that was damaged and written off by fin-rite, with a new phone issued)
This is despite the fact that I upgraded to a new model in Dec'18 (iphone 6), as I could not wait for the claim process to be finalised.
The agent re affirmed that I should have updated my policy, (which I agree with), but the phone in question (iphone 5S) is written off and in the possession of FIN-RITE.
(She mentioned that I should have sent a written document amending the phone as it is a change.)
Therefore in my opinion, this they should update the policy for the lack of clarity and continue with the claim.
She then informs me the policy is cancelled as per my request and that the billing is an error.
It seems that FIN-RITE conveniently cancelled my contract now, as the current claim will exceed the months of incorrect billings noted by them.
I have no letter stating my policy is cancelled, nor can they provide me with any such documents or letters.
Its clear to me, as per my vodacom invoice, I am paying insurance and that my claim should be honoured as I am technically insured.
Absolutely disgusted how companies re-act to their best interests on when it suits them.
