Vodacom *****ing by still debiting money on "cancelled" number
We had a home wifi package with Vodacom, that became close to useless due to the instability and unreliability of service, that we decided to make another plan for our home internet and just simply cancel the Vodacom contract, as the fixed term of the contract had already expired and we had not decided to renew/recommit.
This should have been a simple task...
After calling the cancellation department several times (as this is the only way apparently that cancellation is possible... which in itself is ridiculous that Vodacom tries and makes it near impossible to cancel anything with them); I finally got through and followed the prompts to initiate cancellation. At this point I was left utterly confused as no confirmation was given about any action taken really and at this point I had spoken to no one.
So I tried to contact them again and decided to just stay on the line and hope someone answers.... finally got through to someone on the other side. After stating that I would like to cancel my contract and sharing all the required details required... and enduring the shameless sales onslaught, after making it utterly clear that I am not interested in anything and would simply like assistance with cancelling a specific contract... the real battle started with the Vodacom agent on the other side of the line. After reaching "mutual" (or presumed so) consensus that the cancellation process should please be started, the agent kept coming back with something in the line of: "Perfect, I will start the cancellation process for you and what we will do is cancel the fixed contract and keep the number for you by giving you 1 GB Whatsapp bundle per month, so that if you ever require the number again, you can just simply activate it...". The more I say I would not like the number anymore, thanks, I just want to cancel... in fact I want nothing to do with the number anymore... the more the agent tried to spin it that I don't actually understand and that they are cancelling the contract but doing me a massive favour as well... After an infuriating couple of mins, I finally had toexplain to the agent that I understand exactly what is being said (and repeated it back to them in my own words to illustrate), but questioned them on who is going to pay for this 1G Bundle per month on the number I don't want or ever need again.... So the reply came: "Oh it is just a simple R 25 rand or so on my already existing contract....".
My battle with the agent to explain that I do not want to pay anything for this number/contract anymore and that I do not care what happens to the number continued for another couple of enraging minutes, until my husband even took over the conversation (to my own mortification....) to reiterate what I have been repeating to the agent in no uncertain terms for quite some time now already.
Finally the phone returned to me, the agent seemingly apologised and sheepishly agreed finally to process the cancellation.... or so I thought!
The end of the month came and my Vodacom invoice along with it, and what do I see... I will be paying R 27,61 on the number I begged to just please have cancelled.
This is an absolute outrage... They blatantly **** to me after knowing my wishes and request in no uncertain terms, in fact I could not have been clearer. And by just blatantly ignoring that and continuing to debit my account, they are *****ing... This whole telephonic conversation was recorded allegedly too, so the evidence would be absolutely scathing, but highly unlikely that the would willing acknowledge and share this.
At this point I want to bring in the Ombudsman to help resolve this specific situation and cancel all connections I have with Vodacom... And encourage everyone around me to do the same... No one should put any trust or money into a big bully like Vodacom.
