Vodacom has a stuff you attitude to customers and will not fix issues they create

I purchased a pay as you go sim card from Vodacom to be used as a second number. It turns out to be a recycled number(they recycle their numbers). I am getting all kinds of SMS's from banks for withdrawals, loyalty messages, notifications as to study guides and other information as well as spam calls and SMS's. This is obviously related tot he previous owner of the number. This is apparently a standard for Vodacom to recycle the numbers when they become dormant (they are obviously not doing it correctly). I have asked Vodacom to reissue me another number that is not active and they have said they can do nothing and I must live with the problem or purchase another pay as you go. This is unacceptable and unprofessional. I did not ask for a recycled number ( that was still receiving the information)and they issue these to pay as you go and contract customers. According to them and if there are issues tough, pay for another one (the only solution). My recommendation is with this attitude no one should use Vodacom if this is the lack of professionalism they portray. I will be throwing the sim card away and going to MTN to get a new pay as you go sim card. I cannot understand how Vodacom ever hopes to be judged as a customer caring company with this STUFF YOU attitude. Shame on you Vodacom I hope you loose many customers due to this issue. You created it and you will not fix it. You do not deserve to be a service provider with this attitude.

Reviewer Update
This matter was resolved by a nice gentlemen who phoned me and apologized for the inconvenience. He indicated that they have to recycle numbers and it is based on the continual requirement for new numbers. Something they cannot impact on is the sms function from private vendors etc (banks). This is unfortunate as you my get a sim that suffers from this issue. He offered to add airtime for my inconvenience as the original minimum airtime I started with was going to be lost as I have thrown the old one away and purchased another sim card. I am grateful for that but do not know how to get the number to him for the small loss in the airtime. If the gent could contact me on the number linked to this account so I can give him my new pay as you go number I would appreciate the airtime. Thank you Vodacom this response was at least an attempt to resolve the issue with a compensation for the lost airtime. As an addition if there was a way to intelligently audit the pool numbers waiting for reissue for regular incoming sms's from financial institutes and other known service providers this may solve this problem. (just an idea for the software developers) Thanks again Regards
