Vodacom handed me/you over (after 3 years of no communication).... here is the story(And Help).

Sure I am not the only one this has happened to. In short...Took out a Vodacom 2 year data contract. after about 2 and a half years I Cancel the contract. As far as my understanding everything was good and sorted. 3 years down the line I receive a message ( The first time I hear from Vodacom) that I have been handed over (Never received an email, call or sms nothing!!). Phone Vodacom to find out what's happening. Apparently there was one more payment that wasn't deducted off my account and Vodacom can not help me because it is not their problem anymore and I have been handed over to debt collectors. They want a crazy amount and interest. Also Vodacom listed me with the credit bureau This threat carries no weight, as a prescribed debt may not be listed on your credit profile at a credit bureau. Please Vodacom Remove this listing. now here is the Story: Its a long one so hold on to your seat!!

As long as consumers remain in the dark about old debt, debt collectors will continue to collect millions of Rands from consumers who are not legally bound to repay. In many cases, the debt had been written off by the initial credit provider, but debt collectors buy it for virtually nothing. Prescribed debt is normally followed up many years after the initial debt was incurred. adding that the request for payment is often accompanied by a threat to blacklist the consumer if the debt is not paid. This threat carries no weight, as a prescribed debt may not be listed on your credit profile at a credit bureau. Cell phone accounts become prescribed after no payment was made or any summons issued within 3 consecutive years.
