Vodacom found a loophole in the consumer act.

Vodacom Rewards (Mondo) called me on the 14th of November 2020 and offered me an upgrade. The upgrade was for a Samsung A31 with 25 SMS / 4 Gigs data and 150mins Airtime. I specifically asked the agent if the VAS/CLI was included in the R599 or is this an extra cost. She informed me that it was included in the R599 and that will be all that I will be paying. It sounded like a good special, so I accepted. I was told that I have 14 days to cancel if I so wish. On the 15th of November 2020, I received the device. On the 11th of December 2020, I received a statement and invoice for R758.99. I called the call center and was told that I had to call the Vodacom Rewards number on Monday to investigate. I was told by the agent that I was within the 14 days right to cancel and I asked him to proceed. He transferred me to the accounts agent who then informed me that the 14 days had passed, as I received the device on the 15th November 2020 and their policy stated that the 14 days cancellation starts from the date that the device was issued. This was also not old to me at the time of accepting the contract. So to be clear, the phone is not that issue and it was issued on the 15th of November, but I only received the invoice on the 11th of December 2020. Way past the 14 days to cancel and query the account. I was told now (14 December) that they will log a case that will take 3-10 working days to investigate. This will be over Christmas, so one can only expect an answer in 2021, but until then, they will continue to charge me the R608.99 for an R599 contract, an additional R239.76 over 24 months. There was also no mention of an R130.43 plus VAT for the Upgrade admin fee, so that was also not mentioned or agreed to. (Case - RCO16728)

It has been 5 days and I have not been contacted to resolve this matter. The app still shows that I am being charged R130 plus VAT for an upgrade and this is even after I called the customer care line who advised that the credit nite is on the system but not yet processed. I have not heard back regarding the additional unauthorized charges.
