Vodacom forces me to pay for broken device (device not abused)

My wife took at a Vodacom data contract in October 2020. We received a Microsoft Surface Pro as a device with a Nokia 5G Router. After a couple of months the device broke. I tried to take it into a Vodacom store in Paarl who just said they can't do anything about it and that I have to sort it out myself. I then contacted Microsoft who organise to repair/replace the device. Upon receiving the new/fixed device the device only worked for 3 months before it broke again. Needless to say that we decided we are done with this device. Upon contacting Vodacom in order to cancel our contract and return the device and router; as we are busy paying for a device that is not working; Vodacom informed us that there is nothing they can do about it and we need to continue to pay for the faulty device for the remainder of the contract. I have been transferred to various departments in Vodacom and the story remains the same either they can't help me or I have to continue to pay. I believe this is against the consumer protection act. I am not sure why Vodacom has an issue they have a relationship with the supplier who will refund them for the faulty device and they already received 13 months worth of device rental so they are in a cash positive position

Just an update on the uselessness of Vodacom, when I eventually had the time and made the effort to drive 60km to the closest repair centre the repair centre manager at Vodacom Repairs told me that I can't book in the device there. I am not sure how they even still are in business I will be cancelling all my contracts as soon as the lapse
