VODACOM FORCED UPDATES

This is about Vodacom's 'doubtful' intentions. I got a message when I wanted to use My Vodacom app to see how much data and airtime I have left. The message says : Mandatory Update to version 9.8 and you cannot proceed. Firstly I will have no problems doing the update if Vodacom would pay for the data usage. Secondly Vodacom does not specify how much data they would take from me so that I can use their services for which they are being paid. This sounds like bullying! Specifically if you take into account the storm around the cost of data to SA citizens vs. Iran for instance. I know the company in question is Vodacom's rival. I am sure Vodacom charges SA's users the same kind of exorbitant fees on data! How about airtime cost? I am frustrated as I am trying to keep my data usage to a minimum. No use referring me to a 'free' WiFi place. It is inconvenient and it is just to please Vodacom!
