Vodacom fibre unreliable and inconsistent (Pinelands, Cape Town)

Vodacom Fibre has been unreliable and disappointing.

We have the standard 10Mbps fibre line with a few people living at home so i understand that if everyone was streaming there would be speed issues but not to the extent that we have experienced. We do reach the FUP most months and once throttled poor connection is to be expected so that isn't the complaint here.

When the line was first installed (late 2017) it was reliable and the ping was good. During the 2017 December holidays we got told by the technician that Vodacom had bandwidth issues as they did not expect so many people to sign up so they did not have the servers to host all the new clients so our fibre line would be inconsistent at best (and it was).

Fast forward just over a year later and its hard to even call our product fibre, ping tests show a resting ping when there is just one device connected at around 20-40 (should be 1-5). The download speed with one device is consistent at around 9Mbps which is acceptable, it takes a big dip as soon as other devices start using it and will usually be around 4 - 6 Mbps. Upload speeds aren't really a concern.

Add all that to the fact that you need to phone vodacom to get a OTP in order to log into your own router to change any settings or explore is an annoyance. Annoying that I have to phone someone if i want to do any port forwarding to host a local server.

When the fibre works it works well so the potential is there, just hope that it would work more often.

The connection is the most jittery from 8 to 10pm where ping can sky rocket to a few hundred and downloads will never reach above 5Mbps, the download I can accept, we don't have prioritisation and its peak time but consistent ping is something that I need.

The buzz word for fibre was RELIABILITY and that's the main thing vodacom has failed to deliver.
